The
game of cricket has witnessed success, failures and some phenomenal comebacks
of different cricketers. The cricketing fraternity witnessed such a great
comeback of the former Indian wicket keeper, Dinesh Karthik in IPL 2022 and
2024. He had almost hung up his boots in 2021 and switched to commentary in
cricket. But fortunately he went on to play in the IPL 2022,23 and 24 editions.
In 2022 he scored 330 runs at an average of 55 and strike rate of 183.

This
year of IPL is witnessing another such comeback and this time, its Karun Nair
who is leading the show. Karun Nair made Test debut for India in 2016. In his
third test match, he went on to score a triple century. But unfortunately, he
never got a long run in the test arena. He was dropped after playing 6 test
matches. Despite averaging 62.33, he never got any test call after his 6th test
match. He had made his ODI debut earlier that year and got to play only 2
matches for India. Karun Nair, can be labelled as one of the unluckiest Indian
cricketers of this era. On December 2022, Karun made a heart touching tweet
" Dear cricket, give me one more chance". He has been a consistent
performer in domestic level and currently plays for Vidarbha. The last season performance of this vastly
talented cricketer has been an eye catcher. Even in the Ranji Trophy final, he
made 86 and 135 against Kerala. In 2024/25 domestic season, he made 9
centuries, with 4 of them in Ranji Trophy and 5 in Hazare Trophy. He simply
seemed to be unstoppable. But despite all this efforts, he was shunned of a call
to the National Team. But he was ready to give up. After a delay of 3 years, he
was given a chance to play in an IPL match. In 2019 to 2022, he played for
Punjab Kings X1 and Rajasthan Royals. But he got to play only 8 matches in this
duration. He didn’t play in 2023 and 2024 season. But his hard work and
consistency in domestic matches has finally paid off. He was picked by Delhi
Capitals in 2025 season. But he didn't get a chance to play in first 4 matches.
At last he got a chance to play in the 5 match against Mumbai Indians. He made
most of this chance and went on to score 89 off just 40 deliveries. But Delhi
lost the match by 12 runs. Chasing a mammoth target of 206, Delhi's innings
ended at 193. As tweeted 3 years ago, Cricket has opted to give this talented
Right Handed Batsman another chance. Let’s hope that he can make it big this
time.
